The Role

We help our clients drive change that can impact the lives of millions of Canadians.

With that in mind, Daisy is looking for a passionate and high-performing Consultant to join our team. This represents an exciting opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of clients; working for a communications and government relations firm, you would have the unique opportunity to work with some of the largest organizations in North America, First Nations, large and smaller municipalities, private citizens, elected officials, and aspiring politicians.

This role would have a particular focus on research and writing with opportunities to support clients in a variety of sectors. The Daisy team is not only looking for talent but also a great attitude and energy for our team, and our clients.

As a consultant, you will be responsible for tracking emerging policy and political issues, creating original messaging and outreach materials, researching and writing on policy matters, engaging government and stakeholders, and suggesting proactive ideas and programs to help achieve our clients’ business and advocacy goals.

What your role would entail:

  • Supporting the creation and implementation of integrated public affairs plans that change public opinion and prompt government action, with a special emphasis on issues related to our current client base
  • Working directly with clients to execute tactics that advance their advocacy priorities, including direct engagement with stakeholder groups and government officials
  • Preparing written materials such as stakeholder maps, briefing documents, presentations, submissions, agendas, activity reports and leave-behinds, tailored for various audiences and platforms
  • Proactively monitoring, interpreting, and reporting on government activities, including the political, parliamentary, legislative, and regulatory landscapes
  • Undertaking specific policy research activities in support of broader strategies and plans, particularly those affecting the sectors relating to our current client base.
  • Coordinating arrangements for client engagement with government representatives and stakeholders, directly representing client interests where appropriate
  • Working with teams to plan and execute virtual and in-person events and meetings
  • Overseeing or managing ongoing tracking and reporting on client activities and results
  • Providing insight and intelligence to clients and account leads that could advance a file or client issue, with a focus on the polices that relate directly to our current client base.
  • Recommending strategies, messages, and adjustments to client programs based on experience and feedback
  • Fostering relationships and building trust with colleagues, clients, government, and stakeholders
  • Most team interactions are virtual with some in person client and stakeholder meetings. This allows for a primarily remote work model, without the necessity for our team members to be based in the same geographic location

Minimum qualifications:

  • Creative thinking, initiative, and problem-solving
  • Curiosity, passion, and a keen interest in growing your skills and network, especially within the media or government sectors
  • Excellent grasp of public policy issues, factors that influence government decision-making, and parliamentary, legislative, and regulatory processes
  • 2 years’ experience in a public affairs, government, or political role
  • Post-secondary degree in political science, public policy, communications, or a similar program
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, ability to clearly articulate complex content and distill it for various audiences
  • Superior project and time management skills with attention to detail, ability to prioritize and deliver projects despite obstacles
  • Highly skilled at diplomacy and confidentiality
  • Experience with social media management
